Apprenticeships in Early Years

If you are interested in working with young children an apprenticeship at Woodentots Nursery can be the perfect route into your chosen career.

We use our scheme to introduce a limited number of carefully selected, new and enthusiastic practitioners to childcare. Our course is a great opportunity for school leavers who are looking to embark upon a career within the early years sector or mature adults looking for a new challenge and wanting to gain a valuable qualification.

Not only will you earn as you learn, but the qualification will give you practical skills as well as theoretical knowledge, leading to a wide range of job opportunities.

Apprenticeships available:
Level 2 Early Years Practitioner
Level 3 Early Years Educator

What experiences will I have on the apprenticeship?
You will be a member of the nursery team undertaking the full range of early years practitioners’ duties.

How will I learn on the course?
The apprenticeship is a work-based qualification, which means that most of the training and assessment for the qualification will be completed at the nursery supported by online and face to face assessor visits. Towards the end of your apprenticeship you will have a meeting with your assessor to determine whether you are ready for you End Point Assessment (EPA). The EPA is completed to assess the knowledge, skills and behaviours that you have learnt throughout the apprenticeship. You will practice parts of the EPA assessment throughout the apprenticeship and you will only take the final assessment when you feel ready.

Who can do an apprenticeship?
Anyone in England aged 16 years old and above, whether employed, unemployed or leaving school. There is no upper age limit.

How long will the apprenticeship last?
Level 2 will take around 14 months and level 3 takes around 18 months.

What qualifications do I need?
No qualifications necessary just the right attitude and willingness to learn.

What will I be paid?
If you are under 19 you must be paid at least the Apprenticeship Minimum Wage of £5.28 an hour (from April 2023), however we do pay a higher hourly rate.

If you are 19 after completing the first year of your apprenticeship, you must be paid at least the full National Minimum Wage.

All Woodentots apprentices are employed and have a contract of employment. You are counted as a regular employee and get all benefits such as holiday pay.

Do I need any experience?
Not for level 2, we would expect that you have some prior experience for level 3.
